A renowned attorney from Tenafly died on Saturday after he and his family were involved in a head-on collision in Walton, N.Y., reported WBNG.com.

Andrew R. Thompson, 43, was traveling east on State Highway 206 when a car driven by Joel Alves, 41, of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., crossed into Thompson’s lane and hit him head-on, according to the report.

Charges are expected in the crash that reportedly occurred at 4:40 p.m. on Bear Spring Mountain, the site reported.

Thompson’s wife, Wendi Hoeben, 43, and their six-year-old son were in the car and were taken to a local hospital. Andrew Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene, reported WICZ-TV.

Thompson, a Missouri native, was a partner in a prominent New York law firm, where he focused on mergers and acquisitions. He graduated from Brown University in 1996 and received his law degree from Columbia University in 1999, according to a bio on the firm’s website.

He joined the firm of Carvath, Swaine and Moore in 1999 and made partner in 2007, according to the site.

Hoeben, also an attorney, was later treated and released, but the son was transferred to another hospital, WICZ-TV reported.

Alves was also taken to a local hospital and was treated and released. He was reportedly driving with a suspended driver’s license and suspended car registration.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, according to WICZ-TV.

The crash reportedly caused the state highway to close for several hours.
