JERSEY CITY — In the wake of the Trump Administration withdrawing federal protections for transgender students, activists will rally in Jersey City this weekend for the “most vulnerable” members of the community.

On Wednesday night, President Donald Trump revoked federal guidelines that allowed transgender students to use the restroom designated to the gender the identify within public schools.

The rally in Jersey City is being held in partnership with Garden State Equality to “rise up” and “fight back” against what organizers call an attack on transgender youth.

“Trans youth, the most vulnerable in our community, are under attack,” organizers Vegabet wrote on a Facebook page for the event. “In this time of uncertainty, we must continue to work tirelessly to ensure that our young people have a safe place to learn and grow into confident and educated adults.”

Jersey City — which has been named the most diverse city in the nation — has been home to several similar rallies since Trump was elected president, most recently demonstration in support of immigrants.

The rally will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday on the Newark pedestrian plaza.
