Chemnitz (dpa/sn) – Asylum-seeking families with children from crisis and war zones are to be accommodated in Saxony in the Chemnitz district of Einsiedel. This also applies to former Afghan local Bundeswehr personnel and their families, the Saxony State Directorate announced on Tuesday. A facility should be used that was already used in 2015/16 to accommodate refugees. War refugees from Ukraine were temporarily housed there last spring.
The facility, which consists of individual houses, is very suitable for families with several children. It should offer space for 380 people. According to the authority responsible for the reception and accommodation of asylum seekers, it is unclear when the accommodation will go into operation. An operator is still missing. Local residents are to be informed at an event before the facility is put into operation.
According to the authority, a former hotel in Rötha near Leipzig is currently being prepared to accommodate 300 asylum seekers. The number of asylum seekers coming to Saxony has risen sharply since August, so that additional accommodation capacities are needed.
