Wegeleben/Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – Ten years after the violent death of a 77-year-old in Wegeleben in the Harz district, the police identified a suspect – now the 35-year-old has to answer for murder. The start of the process is planned for next Monday (February 6), a spokesman for the Magdeburg Regional Court announced on Tuesday. The accused is accused of breaking into the elderly woman’s apartment on the night of April 22, 2012 and killing the woman. In their indictment, the public prosecutor’s office assumes that the murder characteristic of concealing another crime, namely a burglary, comes into consideration.
Last year, investigators looked back at the crime from ten years ago. Saliva samples were collected from hundreds of men and compared with DNA evidence from the crime scene using modern technology. In August 2022, the police reported that the suspect had been arrested.
After the start of the process, further hearings are scheduled until March 23rd. The court summoned 22 witnesses and three experts.
