Dresden (dpa/sa) – According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the weekly corona incidence in Saxony-Anhalt was 137.4 on Thursday. Compared to the previous week (114.2), the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants has increased within a week. In a nationwide comparison, Saxony-Anhalt had the third lowest value on Thursday. Only Saxony (132.0) and Thuringia (82.3) were below that. Across Germany, the seven-day incidence was 276.9.

However, the incidence does not provide a complete picture of the infection situation. Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI – mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test done. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics. In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values.

For the city of Halle, the RKI reported the highest incidence nationwide at 218.2 on Thursday. The district with the lowest value was Wittenberg with 51.5.

Since the outbreak of the corona pandemic, 721,085 infections and 5369 deaths related to the corona virus have been registered in Saxony-Anhalt.
