Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – The registration office for anti-Semitism in Saxony-Anhalt, which was previously under construction, is now fully operational. This was announced by the State Chancellery on Friday. “We want to effectively combat anti-Semitism in Saxony-Anhalt. To do this, we need to know where and how it manifests itself and who is committing anti-Semitic acts,” explained Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU). Affected people get quick support via the registration office.
The association OFEK is responsible for the registration office. Reports can now be made there using an online form or in person. The measure is part of the state program for Jewish life in Saxony-Anhalt, which the state government decided last year. The task of the reporting office is the documentation and analysis of anti-Semitic incidents with and without criminal offenses.
“At some point – we hope – society will neither need to talk about anti-Semitism nor to look after the victims and document the incidents. We’re waiting for that time,” said Max Privorozki, chairman of the state association of Jewish communities. “Until it comes, the preventive measures against this evil are indispensable.”
