Salzwedel (dpa/sa) – The traditional company Salzwedeler Baumkuchen GmbH is about to end. All employees had received a letter of termination, confirmed the managing director and owner Rosemarie Lehmann on Wednesday. The decisive factor was the unsuccessful search for a successor. The company is not in economic difficulties, she emphasized. First, the “Volksstimme” (Wednesday edition) had reported.
Production will be shut down in the summer, said the 74-year-old. A lot of money has already been spent on the search for a suitable successor. But she’s still open to offers.
The Baumkuchen from Salzwedel is considered a delicacy and is offered, among other things, in the delicatessen department of the Berlin department store Kadewe. A kilo of Baumkuchen from the Salzwedel factory costs over 40 euros.
