Marienborn (dpa/sa) – A trailer truck loaded with new cars burned out completely on Wednesday on Autobahn 2 near Marienborn in the direction of Hanover. The 32-year-old driver noticed smoke from the engine compartment near the Marienborn junction, the police said. He was still able to steer the vehicle onto the hard shoulder. Shortly after he got out of the semi-trailer truck, the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames. The driver was not injured. The damage caused was estimated at 200,000 euros.

During the rescue work, which is initially still ongoing, traffic will be directed via the middle and left lanes. The standstill lane and the right-hand lane are expected to remain closed for the rescue work until the early noon.
