Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – The corona infection situation in Saxony-Anhalt continues to calm down. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) registered 264.9 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the country for the past seven days, as the RKI dashboard showed on Thursday. A week earlier, the incidence was 507.2 and was already declining. Nationwide, the seven-day incidence on Thursday was 289.6. However, this information only provides a very incomplete picture of the number of infections.

Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI – mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test done. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics. In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values.

According to the RKI, 905,525 infections have been registered nationwide since the beginning of the pandemic. The statistics show a total of 5857 deaths in connection with a corona infection in the country. Saxony-Anhalt has around 2.17 million inhabitants.
