Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – The black-red-yellow coalition wants to pay prison staff better. For this purpose, the so-called enforcement allowance is to be raised retroactively to July 1, 2022, as announced by the FDP parliamentary group. The finance committee of the state parliament voted on Thursday for an increase from 101.90 to 127.38 euros per month. The amendment to the state salary law still has to be approved by the state parliament in November.

“The increase in the prison allowance is a building block to make prison service more attractive,” said Parliamentary Secretary Guido Kosmehl. The country needs more employees in the prisons. Other federal states have already increased the allowances. In Saxony-Anhalt, the last adjustment was eleven years ago. According to the information, the plus will benefit around 1,000 correctional officers in the country.
