Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – Saxony-Anhalt has introduced budgetary relief for the municipalities. In the face of sharply rising gas and electricity prices, they should remain financially viable in the coming months, as the Ministry of the Interior announced in Magdeburg on Tuesday. The municipalities could now temporarily exceed the maximum amount of liquidity credits set in the 2022 budget statute.
In addition, the municipal authorities should accept that budget consolidation measures that have already been decided do not have to be implemented in individual cases if the effects of the energy shortage do not allow this or make it seem unreasonable.
The regulations initially apply to the current year. The ministry wants to monitor further developments and publish a separate decree for the 2023 budget year, it said.
