Halle (dpa/sa) – The exhibition “Horse nomads in Europe – Huns, Avars, Hungary” will be opened with invited guests on Thursday evening. “Even today’s central Germany was not spared from clashes with nomadic groups,” said state archaeologist Harald Meller beforehand. “A separate exhibition area shows the traces of the steppe nomads in central Germany.” The show is open to visitors from Friday to June 25, 2023.
Around 420 exhibits can be seen on around 620 square meters. A treasury with prestige objects from Hun, Avar and Hungarian finds was installed in the center of the atrium of the State Museum. As an attraction, the lifelike reconstruction of an Avar cavalry warrior can be seen for the first time outside of Hungary. The objects come from 30 museums and collections in Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Germany. “There has never been more gold on display in the State Museum than at this exhibition.”
