Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – The local groups of Fridays for Future are calling for a climate strike on Friday in Magdeburg and Halle. The reasons for this are the expiry of the 9-euro ticket at the end of August and the lack of funding for local public transport, in their opinion. “We demand: More money for public transport, cheap tickets as well as appreciation and better working conditions for public transport employees!”, said the Magdeburg local group. Accordingly, the climate demonstrations on Friday are to follow the warning strikes by the transport companies in Saxony-Anhalt in order to draw more attention to the topic. The demonstrations take place in Magdeburg at Willy-Brand-Platz in front of the main train station and in Halle at the Leipzig Tower. In both cities, the streets in the areas of the demonstrations are to be largely closed.
In Saxony, too, environmental activists stood with their banners on the road at Dresden’s Albertplatz on Friday morning, thereby blocking the streets.
