Halle (dpa/sa) – Halle’s mayor Egbert Geier (SPD) reacted with great enthusiasm to the jury’s award for the future center for German unity and European transformation. “This is great, if not to say unique, news for our city, the region and the state of Saxony-Anhalt,” he said on Tuesday evening. Five applications from cities in the east were in the running for the location. “Our months of tireless efforts have been crowned with success,” said Geier.
The mayor of the municipality, which has around 240,000 inhabitants, thanked all supporters in the city, the region and especially in the state and federal government. This success is a team effort across all levels, said Geier.
