Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – Against the background of the shortage of teachers, the Greens have asked the state government to lift restrictions on teacher training at the Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg. The possible combinations of the subjects offered are to be expanded. “If we want to combat the shortage of teachers, we really have to look at all the options,” said the parliamentary manager of the state parliamentary group, Sebastian Striegel, on Monday in Magdeburg.
A motion to this effect is to be discussed in Parliament this week. According to Striegel, it has so far been the case in Magdeburg that students have not been able to study German and English at the same time. You currently have to take a technical subject, he said. “This is not the time for such limitations.” The state government must quickly lift this and implement the wishes of the students.
