Leuna (dpa / sa) – The previous SPD state chairmen Juliane Kleemann and Andreas Schmidt have been confirmed in their offices. The 52-year-old member of the state parliament from the Altmark received around 76 percent of the votes at a party conference in Leuna on Friday. The 52-year-old member of the Merseburg state parliament received around 71 percent of the votes. Two and a half years ago, Schmidt and Kleemann each received more than 85 percent of the votes when they were first elected.

The work in the black-red-yellow coalition will also be discussed at the party conference on Friday and Saturday. A year ago, the SPD had its worst result in Saxony-Anhalt with 8.4 percent in the state elections. The country has been governed by a black-red-yellow coalition since September; before that, the SPD was part of a black-red-green coalition. In the federal elections in autumn, however, the Social Democrats had become the strongest force in the country.
