Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – A new meeting place is to be created on the campus of the Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg. After the laying of the foundation stone for the “Welcome Center” on Wednesday, all support and service offers are to be bundled in the new building by 2024. According to the university, the offer is specifically aimed at students from other countries and guest scientists.
According to the university, the proportion of students who come from abroad is currently 30 percent. The aim of the new building is to do justice to the reputation of a “campus of short distances” even better by concentrating university services. In addition, the attractiveness of the university location Magdeburg increases, it was said.
Another location of the university computer center will also be set up in the “Welcome Center”. This is the basis for a modern infrastructure for learning and research. The new center will be built as a two-and-a-half-storey building with a basement and lots of window space. It is to be connected to the “Campus Service Center” built in 2010 and increase its area by around 1800 square meters. The university initially did not provide any information on the costs.
