Bömenzien (dpa/sa) – The police are investigating the cause of death after the death of a man north of Stendal. On Thursday afternoon, the 55-year-old sat as a passenger in a car that hit the curb and a fence post in Bömenzien and came to a stop, the police said on Friday. According to a witness, the man then argued with the driver. The driver is said to have walked away from the scene of the accident.

When the 55-year-old got out of the car, he is said to have suddenly collapsed. His condition had deteriorated to such an extent that even intensive rescue measures no longer helped. The police are checking whether the man died from the injuries caused by the accident or whether he had medical problems. The driver, a 66-year-old, was picked up by the police. He is being investigated for involuntary manslaughter.
