Magdeburg/Schierke (dpa/sa) – The merry month of May and the week-long Pentecost holidays come to an end in Saxony-Anhalt in a changeable, cool and brisk wind. In the Harz Mountains, even “frost near the ground” is possible at night, the German Weather Service (DWD) announced on Saturday. For Sunday, the meteorologists predict a lot of clouds, showers and local thunderstorms. The maximum temperatures of 16 degrees in the lowlands and 12 degrees in the Harz Mountains are hardly suitable for outdoor pools. The new week also starts changeable – there is hardly any sunshine. From Tuesday it will be a little warmer and the wind will only blow weakly.
Brocken hikers had to be tough on Saturday. The 1141 meter high peak of the Harz summit was around noon at almost 2 degrees and strong, gusty wind in dense fog. This was shown by webcam recordings by Wernigerode Tourismus GmbH.
With a view to the Pentecost days next weekend (June 5th/6th), the meteorologists expect “reviving showers and thunderstorm activity” with quite early summer temperatures up to a maximum of 26 degrees and mild nights. Storm gusts are possible, although according to current forecasts, the most hours of sunshine and the lowest amounts of precipitation are still to be expected in eastern Germany.
