Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – Saxony-Anhalt’s Minister of the Interior, Tamara Zieschang (CDU), has warned drivers of seasonally more frequent deer crossing the roads. “Especially at dusk and dawn, animals crossing the road must be expected along the edges of forests and fields,” said Zieschang, according to a statement from her ministry on Monday. She warned to drive very carefully and always be ready to brake. She also advised having the technical condition of the vehicle checked in autumn, when wet, fog, darkness and leaves posed a challenge. This applies above all to the lighting, the tires and the windshield wiper system, it said.
According to traffic accident statistics, wildlife accidents are at the top of the list of the main causes of accidents. According to the information, their number fell slightly nationwide to 13,920 for 2021 (minus 417 compared to 2020), wild animals are still the greatest danger in road traffic, followed by errors when turning, maneuvering and reversing as well as too little distance.
