Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – In Saxony-Anhalt, more and more people are also working after retirement age. In June last year, around 20,500 of the approximately 867,000 employees were aged 67 and over. This emerges from a letter from the Federal Ministry of Labor in response to a request from the Eastern Commissioner for the left-wing parliamentary group in the Bundestag, Sören Pellmann. In 2010, around 11,700 seniors were still employed, when there were 860,000 employees in Saxony-Anhalt.
In particular, the number of jobs subject to social security contributions among employed pensioners has risen: from 1186 (2010) to 4292 (2021). At the same time, the number of mini-jobs held by senior citizens increased from 10,500 to 16,200 over the eleven years.
Left-wing politician Pellmann called it “unacceptable” that more and more pensioners had to work “to make ends meet”. In the east, the numbers would have almost doubled. The pension system secures the citizens less and less. “We need a significant increase in the pension level, a poverty-proof minimum pension,” he demanded.
