Lutherstadt Wittenberg (dpa/sa) – The museum in the armory of Lutherstadt Wittenberg is dedicating an exhibition to the great variety of colours, shapes and production methods of African wooden vessels. After the vernissage of “From Wood to Form – African Wooden Vessels from the Christian Kennert Collection”, the show is to be presented until September 15th. According to the city, around a hundred vessels from different cultures such as the Zulu, the Bamum and the Kuba can be seen.
The collection will be shown publicly for the first time, it said. The aim is to draw attention to “an area of ??African art that has so far received little attention”. The focus is also on the African aesthetics in everyday life, according to the city administration. The exhibition in the armory is a cooperation between the Friends of the Julius Riemer Collection and the Municipal Collections of Lutherstadt.
