Halle (dpa/sa) – conservationists insist on having more say in the construction of the planned future center for German unity and European transformation in Halle. It is urgently necessary to involve the population as well as clubs and initiatives in the project, said a spokesman for the Hallesche Auenwald working group on Sunday. According to federal plans, the future center is to be built on an area of ??around 15,000 square meters in Halle.
According to the Hallesche Auenwald association, it is still the opinion that an existing building should be converted for the future center instead of a new building. Otherwise, the conservationists fear that areas will be sealed and that green areas with trees and shrubs will be lost on Riebeckplatz in Halle.
According to the federal government, the future center should honor the achievements of German unification and make use of the experience gained for future upheavals and crises. It should be a meeting place and research center at the same time. A jury chose Halle (Saale) as the location of the future center. Frankfurt (Oder), Eisenach, Jena and the duo Leipzig and Plauen were in the finals of the competition. The future center, which costs 200 million euros, is to be built by 2028. An architectural competition is planned for the building.
