Muldestausee (dpa/sa) – A newly built hydroelectric power plant was put into operation on Friday at the Muldestausee. In the future, it will generate around 13.6 million kilowatt hours of electricity a year at the outlet structure of the dam, said a spokesman for the Ministry of Energy. This can cover the energy needs of around 4,000 households in the region. According to the ministry, around 25 million euros have been invested in the facility.
The Muldestausee is a former opencast mine in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district that was flooded in the mid-1970s. With an area of ??around 6.3 square kilometers and around 135 million cubic meters of backwater, it is the third largest body of water in the country.
