Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – The long-term trend towards lower numbers of participants in the federal voluntary service did not continue in Saxony-Anhalt in the middle of the year. According to statistics from the Federal Office for Family and Civil Society Tasks, 1,611 women and men of all ages were involved in this way in social and health facilities in June. The number was similar to that of the same time last year, when 1609 Bufdis were reported.

In June 2021, the lowest June value since the introduction of the federal voluntary service was reached. In June 2020 there were still a good 1800, in June 2018 2135. On average in 2021 there were 1581 Bufdis in Saxony-Anhalt, in 2020 the average was still 1800.

The volunteers are usually involved in institutions for twelve months. Often these are hospitals, retirement homes and day-care centers. But areas of application such as environmental protection, culture, sport or integration are also possible. The Bufdis receive pocket money, a volunteer card, a certificate as well as free seminars and extensive support. After the suspension of compulsory military service on July 1, 2011, the federal voluntary service followed the civil service.
