Halle (dpa/sa) – The onion is the vegetable with the largest cultivation area in Saxony-Anhalt. It is grown on around 1100 of a total of around 4200 hectares for vegetable cultivation, as the State Statistical Office in Halle announced on Monday. The carrot follows in second place with about 1000 hectares.
According to the State Statistical Office, agricultural operations in Saxony-Anhalt harvested 45,000 tons of onions last year. That was around 8,400 tons less than in the long-term comparison of the years 2011 to 2020. In purely mathematical terms, according to the statisticians, in 2021 every Saxony-Anhalter had over 20 kilograms of onions available for spicy meals or direct consumption.
