Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – State Parliament President Gunnar Schellenberger (CDU) has recognized the work of the former Saxony-Anhalt Finance Minister Jens Bullerjahn (SPD). “We mourn the loss of a clever strategist and brilliant tactician, a master of frank words,” said Schellenberger at the beginning of the state parliament session on Tuesday in Magdeburg. One looks with respect at his political lifetime achievements.

The 60-year-old Bullerjahn died in a hospital in Eisleben (Mansfeld-Südharz district) at the end of November. A funeral service was held there on Tuesday. The SPD politician was finance minister in Saxony-Anhalt from 2006 to 2016. Bullerjahn was a member of the state parliament from 1990 to 2016. That year he had made it public that he suffered from the rare nervous disease ALS. This is an incurable disease of the nervous system.

It was impressive how Bullerjahn recently dealt with his incurable illness publicly, said Schellenberger. “Here too he remained true to himself.”
