Magdeburg/Nuremberg (dpa/sa) – The “Magdeburg Moritzplatz” project has received an award for social cohesion. In the project, more than 60 participants produced a TV series that addressed life in their Magdeburg Neue Neustadt district, as the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees announced on Thursday.
Young people with and without a migration background worked together on the Magdeburg project. This resulted in new and authentic perspectives on the community and a “part of the city that has often been devalued in the past”.
The federal program for social cohesion, as part of which the prize for “Magdeburg Moritzplatz” was awarded, was launched a year ago. The federal government supports projects for positive changes in cities and municipalities. They are intended to create space for encounters and joint activities between people of different cultures, worldviews or origins in the district.
