Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – Saxony-Anhalt’s Justice Minister Franziska Weidinger (CDU) wants to create new structures this year in order to prosecute hate crime more closely. A spokesman for the Ministry of Justice in Magdeburg confirmed on Wednesday that the public prosecutor’s office in Halle should set up a central office to combat hate crime on the Internet for the state of Saxony-Anhalt. Additional staff is planned for this. It is still necessary to vote on the scope and the exact timetable. Weidinger had previously informed the legal committee about the plans.
Green MP Sebastian Striegel was the first to tweet about it. A week ago he had criticized in the state parliament that hatred and hate speech on the Internet are not pursued decisively enough. A nationwide strategy against hate crime is needed.
