Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – Magdeburg trams will soon only stop on request. From October, the vehicles would only stop if people wanted to get on or off, the Magdeburger Verkehrsbetriebe (MVB) announced on Tuesday. Passengers must therefore press the button in good time – otherwise the train should continue. According to the MVB, the doors will no longer open independently, but only at the push of a button.

With the change, MVB wants to save energy and heating costs and better comply with the scheduled departure times. So far, trams in Magdeburg have stopped at every stop on weekdays until 9 p.m.
