Motorcyclists like to use Ascension Day for a trip. On this public holiday, however, there were several serious accidents on Saxony-Anhalt’s roads.
Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – On Ascension Day there were several serious motorcycle accidents on the streets of Saxony-Anhalt. A motorcyclist died and at least three others were seriously injured, according to the Magdeburg police on Friday. Three of the four accidents occurred in the Harz district. The fourth accident happened in the Salzland district: There, a 19-year-old crashed his motorcycle into a tree near Schönebeck and died at the scene of the accident. For reasons that are still unclear, he had veered off the roadway on a curve.
A car collided with a motorbike convoy in the Harz Mountains on Thursday afternoon. The 80-year-old car driver had overlooked the oncoming motorcyclists when turning left. While the first driver in the column was still able to dodge, the 32-year-old second motorcyclist crashed head-on into the car and was seriously injured. The other two motorcyclists were also able to dodge, but one of them fell and was slightly injured.
Another motorcyclist was also hit by a car during an overtaking maneuver in the Harz Mountains and was seriously injured. The 52-year-old tried to overtake a car that was about to turn left on Thursday afternoon and was hit by it.
The fourth accident occurred near Wernigerode. There, a motorcyclist came off the road on Thursday afternoon for reasons that are still unclear and was thrown into the ditch. The 69-year-old was injured so badly that he had to be taken to the hospital in a rescue helicopter.
