Halle (dpa/sa) – Six men are said to have entered the country illegally on the back of a truck. The driver heard voices and knocking from inside the car at a truck stop north of Halle, a police spokeswoman said on Wednesday. Officers took him and the men, aged between 16 and 25, into temporary custody Tuesday morning. None of those discovered had valid residence papers, it said.

According to initial findings, the 32-year-old driver took over the car in Romania without knowing about the passengers. At least one of the men is said to have paid a smuggler in Hungary to travel.

The five adult men were handed over to an initial reception facility, according to the police spokeswoman. The young person at the age of 16 was placed in a youth facility. According to the police, there is no suspicion against the truck driver.
