Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – After the six-week summer vacation, classes at schools in Saxony-Anhalt will start this Thursday. According to the Ministry of Education, around 209,000 children and young people will study there in the new school year. Around 14,300 teachers teach at general schools. Education Minister Eva Feußner (CDU) wanted to visit a primary school in Magdeburg on Thursday.
When the students come back to school, neither masks nor tests will be compulsory. If the pandemic worsens, measures could be taken again, Feußner had previously explained. Face-to-face teaching should have priority.
It is still unclear how many Ukrainian schoolchildren will arrive at the schools on Thursday. According to the minister, at the end of the last school year there were around 3,400 in arrival classes and in regular classes. However, around 6,700 school-age Ukrainian children are registered in the country, according to figures from the Ministry of the Interior. Compulsory schooling and the Saxony-Anhalt curriculum now apply to all Ukrainian children and young people, Feußner emphasized. The data would be collected on the first day of school. The country will react accordingly.
