Thale (dpa/sa) – The touristic upgrading of the witches’ dance place near Thale, which is popular with Harz vacationers and day-trippers, is taking further steps forward. After two topping-out ceremonies on Friday, an attractive adventure place for children and adults in Germany’s northernmost low mountain range is to be created by 2024. The topping-out ceremony is celebrated both for the conversion of the traditional mountain theater and for a multi-storey car park, which is intended to defuse the tense parking situation on the plateau, especially in summer.
Around 11 million euros flow from the state treasury, with which the expansion and renovation of the theater and square are co-financed. According to the Ministry of Economics and Tourism in Magdeburg, most of the money is being invested in the Bergtheater, which is being expanded and technically updated for around 9.2 million euros. The seating capacity of one of the oldest natural theaters in Germany is also to be increased from 1350 to 1900 seats. In the course of this, the Hexentanzplatz will also be restructured and provided with additional attractions. A new parking deck and an information building for guests are being built.
The Hexentanzplatz above the small town of Thale has its origins as an old place of worship with witches and devils and can now be reached as a destination by car, on foot or by cable car. Visitors are attracted by the zoo, the Walpurgishalle and a panoramic view of the Bodetal.
