Dresden (dpa/sn) – The Bundeswehr celebrated the 67th anniversary of its founding on Thursday with a ceremony in the Military History Museum in Dresden. Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) paid tribute to the work of the troops and also recalled the many civilian operations – such as the flooding of the Elbe, the corona pandemic and fighting the forest fires this summer. The soldiers would enjoy incredible esteem among the population. The Bundeswehr is “very welcome” in Saxony.

“The Bundeswehr is an important and valuable partner for Saxony. In emergency situations, the Free State can always rely on the support of the Bundeswehr,” explained Kretschmer. “The servicewomen and men have my fullest respect for that. But I would also like to say clearly to the Federal Government that the best way to thank the Bundeswehr for its deployment is that our soldiers are given the best equipment for training and operations.” The Prime Minister emphasized: “The way we equip our Bundeswehr is how we relate to our comrades”.
