Bautzen (dpa/sn) – The CDU politician Udo Witschas got the most votes in the district election in the district of Bautzen, but clearly missed an absolute majority. The previous deputy district administrator got 38.4 percent of the votes, as the state statistical office announced on Sunday evening as a preliminary election result. AfD member of parliament Frank Peschel came in second (28.1 percent). The joint candidate of the SPD, Left and Greens, Alex Theile, received 25 percent. The individual candidate Tobias Jantsch received 8.6 percent of the votes. Voter turnout was 47.6 percent.
Since no candidate received more than 50 percent of the votes, a re-election will take place on July 3rd. Only then will it be clear who will be at the head of the district in the future.
