Dresden (dpa / sn) – 74 cities and communities benefit from the “Cultural Land 2022. Saxony as a Stage” program. As the Culture Foundation of the Free State announced on Tuesday, around five million euros are available for art and culture projects that are supported by local authorities. The projects have now been selected. “It is important to me to keep an eye on our Saxon cultural landscape after the restrictions imposed by the corona pandemic and to help the institutions restart,” said Minister of Culture Barbara Klepsch (CDU).
Municipalities could apply to the cultural foundation for funding until the end of May. The foundation received applications with an application volume of more than 5.8 million euros. Most of the projects funded now come from the districts of Görlitz (17), Mittelsachsen (10) and the Erzgebirge district (10). The respective funding amounts range from 10,000 euros for smaller projects to 600,000 euros for large-scale projects. “The range of events is enormous. We are very pleased that so many artists have been directly involved in planning the concepts submitted. Precisely this new form of alliances between artists, cultural workers, local citizens and those responsible in the respective municipalities was one of the central goals when awarding the funds,” emphasized Manuel Frey, Director of the Cultural Foundation 20,000 euros for the “Welcome Elsewhere” festival. Five in-house productions by the German-Sorbian People’s Theater in Bautzen as well as various productions from Munich, Berlin and Dresden will be staged. Almost 51,000 euros went to Augustusburg, where the currently vacant Lehngericht is to be established as a new venue for art and culture.
