Leipzig (dpa/sn) – The trial against a doctor for allegations of fraud in the millions has begun at the Leipzig Regional Court. The man is said to have submitted invoices to the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in Saxony for services not provided in his practices in Böhlen and Kitzscher, as the public prosecutor explained on Thursday. As a result, he wrongly received a total of around 2.4 million euros. The public prosecutor accuses the doctor of fraud in 17 cases between January 2014 and March 2018. He is also said to have committed document forgery.
In the same proceedings, another doctor has to answer for being an accessory to fraud. According to the public prosecutor’s office, he is said to have allowed his personal details to be used for allegedly falsified invoices – although he was not working in the practice at this time due to illness. For this he received 2000 euros gross per month.
The defense lawyers for the two accused rejected the allegations on the first day of the trial. Twelve more appointments are expected at the district court. The verdict is expected to be on May 30th.
