Zwickau (dpa / sn) – A 43-year-old driver was seriously injured by a police officer’s shot while fleeing a traffic check. According to the police, the driver was driving a car without a front license plate on Reichenbacher Straße in Zwickau on Saturday evening. The officers wanted to check the driver, the man accelerated his car and drove away. The 43-year-old apparently wanted to avoid a roadblock set up by a second patrol. He ignored the signs to stop a police officer, drove towards the officer and, according to initial findings, probably touched the 30-year-old’s arm. The policeman shot the car with his service weapon. A few meters later, the car crashed into a traffic light.

Three passengers in the 43-year-old’s car were also injured in the accident. The car was totaled. The Humboldtstraße Saarstraße Planitzer Straße crossing was closed for several hours. According to the police, the driver had a rapid drug test positive for amphetamines and cannabis. The 43-year-old is being investigated for, among other things, attacking police officers and dangerous interference in road traffic. The 30-year-old police officer is also being investigated to check whether the use of the weapon was legal.
