Leipzig/Algiers (dpa/sn) – The Leipzig gas company VNG wants to import hydrogen from Algeria to Germany. The company therefore signed a letter of intent on Tuesday together with the Algerian energy company Sonatrach, the companies announced on Tuesday. In order to enable the import in the future, scientific and technical questions should first be looked at together, it said.
Hydrogen is an essential part of the energy future, said VNG board member Hans-Joachim Polk. “In order to meet the demand for hydrogen in Germany, however, large quantities have to be imported.” According to its own information, VNG is Germany’s third largest gas importer. The group has its headquarters in Leipzig and employs more than 1,500 people.
