Dresden (dpa/sn) – The upward trend in new apprenticeship contracts in Saxony’s trades continues this year. By the end of June, 2,785 apprenticeships had been completed, 188 or 7.2 percent more than at the same time last year, as the Saxon Crafts Day in Dresden announced on Monday. The interest in dual vocational training in this economic sector is “unchanged”. This time, the offers from opticians, dental technicians, roofers, vehicle painters and bakers are much more popular. However, most apprenticeship contracts were concluded with car mechatronics technicians, electronics technicians and mechanics for plumbing, heating and air conditioning.
Irrespective of this, according to the umbrella organization, there are still hundreds of free training places in around 80 different trades across the country. There is a large selection, especially in the automotive, electrical, bricklaying, metalwork, roofing, plumbing, heating and air conditioning trades. But also audiologists, carpenters, painters/varnishes, road builders, building cleaners and refrigeration technology mechatronics are still looking for new blood, as well as crafts that have become rather rare – glaziers, engravers, ceramicists, brewers/maltsters or undertakers. According to the association, entry into the training year, which officially begins at the end of August, is possible until October 2022.
