Dresden (dpa / sn) – In his New Year’s speech, Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer called for unity. “I think there are some things in common between singing in a choir and being together in a society,” says the CDU politician in his speech, which is to be broadcast on January 1 on Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk. The youth choir of the Pestalozzi-Gymnasium Heidenau from the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains will also take part.
According to Kretschmer, choral singing only fills the room when all vocal groups are represented. “There are different voices and pitches. They follow different melodies and sometimes it’s so distant that it’s hard to imagine how it’s all going to come together again.” In the end, however, everything comes together and a common sound is formed: “It’s similar with our society.” It’s often busy there and it’s exhausting. “But that’s the way it has to be in a democratic, lively society.”
