Kamenz (dpa/sn) – Newborn girls in Saxony still have a higher life expectancy than boys. Compared to 2006/2008, the difference has increased again by a few months, compared to 1993/1995, however, it has melted by a good year, as the State Statistical Office in Kamenz announced on Thursday on the day of unequal life expectancy (December 10). According to the 2019/2021 life table, the expected life expectancy of newborn boys is 77.4 years, that of girls 83.6 and thus 6.2 years more. Most recently, the sexes had separated 5.9 years.
According to the state office, there are also differences in premature mortality – deaths under the age of 65. The value per 100,000 inhabitants was 370 men and only 164 women in 2020. The Day of Unequal Life Expectancy aims to increase men’s awareness of their health.
