Dresden (dpa / sn) – The Free State wants to give women more support in exploiting their potential in the workplace. The cabinet decided on Tuesday to provide funding for which, according to the Ministry for Equal Opportunities, a total of 27 million euros will be available from the European Social Fund and the state budget until 2027.
The money should flow into areas where women are persistently underrepresented or structurally disadvantaged. Women should be addressed in a targeted manner, and their circumstances should also be taken into account, such as an interrupted career or responsibility for family and children.
According to Minister Katja Meier (Bündnis 90/Greens), such funding also helps to combat the shortage of skilled workers, poverty in old age and the reduction of role stereotypes. The talents of women, for example as founders or specialists in occupations that have hitherto been typical of men, must be given greater prominence.
According to the ministry, according to the most recent survey, only 28 percent of new start-ups in Saxony are made by women, and the trend is falling. Nationwide it was 38 percent in 2020. They also do not always work part-time voluntarily, and their share in management positions is only around 30 percent. It is only different in health and social services and in retail. In order to change this, action should be taken as early as the career orientation phase.
