Dresden (dpa/sn) – Consumers in Saxony buy significantly more online than seven years ago. This emerges from the trade atlas for 2022, which the Ministry of Economic Affairs published on Tuesday. Accordingly, the online share of the total purchasing power in Saxony this year was 15.8 percent. In 2015 it was about eight percent.

According to the report, there are 22,875 retail facilities in Saxony with a sales area of ??around 6.72 million square meters. Compared to 2015, the total area has decreased slightly – in 2015 it was 6.85 million square meters. More than half of the area (60 percent) is made up of large-scale shops with a size of 800 square meters or more. Around 44 percent of all retail shops cover everyday needs, i.e. they sell clothing, shoes, toys or sporting goods, among other things.

The trade atlas was created by the Society for Market and Sales Research and supported by the Chambers of Industry and Commerce. The data have been collected at regular intervals of four to five years since 1998.
