Dresden (dpa/sn) – Twelve men and women in Dresden received Saxony’s highest award for their social commitment. Among others, the Order of Merit went to Michael Albrecht, who has been the Medical Director at the Dresden University Hospital for two decades. He was significantly involved in the development and expansion of the health system in the Free State, it was said on Tuesday evening to justify.

The awardees also include the physician and theologian Peter Stosiek and the head of the Institute for Infectious and Tropical Medicine in Chemnitz, Thomas Grünewald. Since the beginning of the corona pandemic, he has been advising the state government on questions of fighting the pandemic and has worked on the vaccination strategy in Saxony.

The Saxon Order of Merit has been awarded since 1997 to people from Germany and abroad who are particularly committed to the Free State and its citizens. According to the State Chancellery, the award has been presented 362 times to date.
