Dresden (dpa / sn) – Despite all efforts and calls, Saxony is still at the bottom of the nationwide vaccination against the corona virus. Although the state government sees it as central to the pandemic, progress is slow. According to the vaccination monitoring of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), only 66.3 percent of the population has been vaccinated at least once – 0.3 percent more than in July. In terms of percentage, the Free State is also at the bottom when it comes to second vaccinations and boosters – but in absolute terms it is in the lower midfield.
According to the statistics, as of October 24th, 65 percent of the population are basic immunized and have the third vaccination in addition to the first and second vaccination. That is a good fifth more than three months ago. At 50.4 percent, almost half have the first booster, the proportion of those who have been vaccinated four times is 5.3 percent.
According to the RKI, around 2.6 million people have basic immunization, a good two million have a booster and almost 217,000 have another booster. A total of almost 7.5 million vaccine doses have been administered nationwide so far.
In view of the development, Health Minister Petra Köpping (SPD) continues to promote vaccination against Corona. “The pandemic is not over,” she said. The disease should be taken seriously. “Protect yourself and those around you by getting vaccinated,” she appeals – and wants to get vaccinated for the fourth time on Wednesday.
