Dresden (dpa / sn) – Saxony has extended the application deadline for the forest fire aid program to November 18. The program, worth two million euros, was launched for the hospitality industry after the devastating forest fire in Saxon Switzerland in the summer. Applications are still accepted by the economic development department of the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district office, the Ministry of Tourism announced on Friday. The liquidity aid is intended to support small and medium-sized tourism businesses that have suffered a sharp decline in bookings due to the forest fires.
“By extending the application deadline, we would like to give other tourism companies in Saxon Switzerland the opportunity to apply for emergency aid. Companies can apply for up to 5,000 euros and in special cases up to 20,000 euros,” said Minister of Tourism Barbara Klepsch (CDU).
