Dresden (dpa/sn) – Protestant parishes in Saxony will celebrate the Reformation festival next Monday with festive services, concerts or dedications. According to the regional church office, the regional bishop traditionally preaches in the morning in the Meissen Cathedral. In many places, the festivities are accompanied by trombone choirs and Reformation rolls are shared afterwards.
In Dresden and Leipzig, the Kreuz and Thomanerchor also provide the music, in Anger-Crottendorf (Erzgebirge) the pastor’s band “The Black Holes” plays “Luther Rock” in the Trinity Church. Elsewhere, the Reformation is commemorated in a playful or scenic way, and in Grimma the pilgrim’s blessing is granted after the effort.
On the eve, the Frauenkirche Dresden Foundation commemorated the church consecration festival of October 30, 2005, which was rebuilt from the ruins of the war, with a celebratory service Travel back in time to Martin Luther.
The Reformation Day commemorates the posting of the theses by the monk and theologian. According to tradition, on October 31, 1517, Luther nailed his 95 theses against the Church’s sale of indulgences to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg (Saxony-Anhalt) – this is considered the beginning of the Reformation.
