Minden (dpa / sn) – The handball players of SC DHfK Leipzig have continued their winning streak in the Bundesliga. Coach Runar Sigtryggsson’s team prevailed on Saturday evening in front of 2,551 spectators at table penultimate GWD Minden despite a moderate performance with 29:28 (18:14). For the first time since they were promoted to the Bundesliga in 2015, Leipzig celebrated six successes in a row. Viggo Kristjansson and Sime Ivic were the SC DHfK’s best throwers with six goals each. With 16:16 points, the SC DHfK improved to ninth place.

The Leipzigers only lived up to their role as favorites in the first half. Thanks to a concentrated defensive performance and consistent exploitation of chances, they were already leading 6:2 after ten minutes. The heavily weakened hosts, who had to do without the former Leipzig player Niclas Pieczkowski, fought back with a lot of effort, but were only rarely able to stop the guests from playing at pace. With some negligence shortly before the break, however, Leipzig blocked the chance of a higher half-time lead.

At the beginning of the second round, the guests acted erratically. They lost their rhythm on offense and the self-sacrificing hosts were able to work their way up to 23:24 (45th minute). Although the Leipzigers increased their lead in a hectic game up to the 57th minute to 29:25, the Mindeners didn’t give up. With three goals in a row, they reduced the lead to 28:29 with 47 seconds to go and even had the chance to equalize with the final attack after Leipzig lost the ball again. However, the eleven-time goalscorer Philipp Ahouansou got stuck with the last free throw on the Leipzig block.
